Asharqia Chamber was established in 1372 AH (1952 AD). Since its founding, it has made significant strides on various fronts: safeguarding the interests of its members and continuously developing its services for its business-sector subscribers; contributing to the development of the Eastern Province’s economy; and launching distinguished initiatives in service of the economy and society in the Kingdom. It has also evolved administratively, organizationally and financially, remained open to developments at similar organizations around the world, adopted the latest systems and technologies in the business services environment, and safeguarded businesspeople’s interests. The Chamber has undergone numerous developments and expansions, both “horizontally” and “vertically,”
which have earned it a prominent position among chambers of commerce and industry at both the Arab and regional levels. One of the clearest indicators of this development is the growth in the number of business subscribers, from 19 members in Shawwal 1372 AH to more than 113,000 members by the end of 2021. The Chamber has also grown from an old building consisting of one room and a hall into a building designed to be a landmark of the Eastern Province—a remarkable engineering, architectural and aesthetic achievement in the region. Its four floors house, in addition to the offices of its various departments and sections, numerous elegant and prestigious venues for international and local conferences, seminars, meetings and exhibitions.
The Chamber has also expanded horizontally. Instead of a single building serving as its headquarters in Dammam, it has extended its reach across the governorates of the Eastern Province, providing services to businesspeople through its branches in Jubail, Khafji and Qatif. Vertically, Asharqia Chamber’s development continues without pause. Among the many examples of this progress are the establishment of the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Center, the Training Center, the Investment Center, the Social Responsibility Center, the Businesswomen’s Center and the Special Services Center, along with other services and centers. These reflect the Chamber’s commitment to serving the nation and the region, as well as its determination to champion specific issues that embody its forward-looking vision.
As a result, the Chamber has played a broader and more influential role in economic life—not only in the Eastern Province, but also in the Kingdom and the Arabian Gulf. Over more than five decades, its operations have grown until it has become one of the Kingdom’s most important commercial and economic institutions.
In light of this, the Chamber’s vision of the future has broadened to keep pace with continued and accelerating growth. It has worked, and continues to work, to keep pace with the Kingdom’s civilizational renaissance, both influencing it and being influenced by it. The Chamber has begun planning for the future, viewing this as the best way to provide better services in quality and more services in quantity to its subscribers, in a manner that keeps pace with the progress and expansion of economic activity in the Eastern Province in particular and the Kingdom as a whole.
